About Us

Vision:

Empowering young minds to bloom, nourish and transform the future of sustainable agriculture

Motto: Cultivating a better tomorrow

Who We Are:

Ingo Agrichamps Youth Association (INGO) is an umbrella body of various agribusiness youth groups in Kakamega County. Its membership comprises of youth groups and individual membership.

Why Agriculture? We believe that agriculture is the backbone of any economy, and our association aims to empower young people to be successful farmers and agripreneurs.

Mission:

Our mission is to provide opportunities for young people to learn about and engage with agriculture, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and offer access to resources and support for young agripreneurs.

Our Objectives:

Our main objective is to:
Create decent income-generating jobs and access to resources for the youths in the agricultural sector.

We also aim to:
a) Fostering rural youth development through empowering rural youth with skills and resources to actively participate in and contribute to the agricultural sector
b) Championing advocacy for youths in agribusiness through amplifying the voices of young agripreneurs on policy issues affecting their livelihoods and future prospects.
c) Focus on gender equality and inclusion by ensuring equal opportunities and empowerment for young women and men in agriculture.
d) Promote climate smart agricultural practices to build resilience and mitigate climate change impacts on young farmers

Our Programmes:

We offer a variety of programs to help the youth get involved in agriculture and develop the skills they need to succeed. Some of our programs include:

a) Agricultural education and training: We offer workshops and training sessions on a variety of agricultural topics, including fodder production and marketing, Black Soldier Flies production and marketing, fish farming, and environmental conservation practices.
b) Mentoring and support: We provide mentorship and support to young agripreneurs, helping them to connect with experienced professionals and build networks in the industry.
c) Climate Action: We equip young people with the knowledge and skills to rear Black Soldier Flies (BSF) a sustainable waste management solution that converts organic waste into valuable frass fertilizer, reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers and contributing to climate change mitigation. We also have a tree planting initiative 'planting trees, growing minds' where we plant indigenous trees in schools. This fosters a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility among students while mitigating climate change.

Our Impact and Achievements:

Through our programs, we have achieved the following;
❖ Helped over 120 youths from Kakamega County access land for fodder production.
❖ Helped 15 youths from Mumias West develop their skills in fish farming and its value chain.
❖ Trained 40 youths from across Kakamega County on production and marketing of Black Soldier Flies (BSF) a sustainable source of protein for livestock.
❖ Through our 'planting trees, growing minds' initiative we have managed to plant over 2,000 indigenous trees in schools.

Our Engagements:

❖ INGO was the secretariat of the 2023 National World Food Day. In line with the year’s theme, INGO prides itself of engaging the youth in smart agriculture that promotes water conservation and climate adaptation. We are happy to be constantly engaging the next generation of agripreneurs in environmental conservation through indigenous tree planting, fodder production and aquaculture.
❖ During the development of the 2022 -2027 County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), INGO participated in the public participation and wrote a memorandum to advocate for the youth in agriculture in Kakamega County.
❖ INGO participated in a panel discussion focused on “youth business and self-employment” during the Kakamega County Youth Kikao Conference 2023, highlighting the needs of young agripreneurs in areas such as land access, mechanization and tax breaks. This engagement provided a platform to share our voice and advocate for improved support systems for young agripreneurs in Kakamega County.
❖ Youth Connekt Africa Summit,2023 Kenya: INGO participated in a panel discussion on “youth engagement in agrifood systems” sharing our experiences and success story in accessing land through formal leasing. This facilitated knowledge sharing and connected us with other youth and organizations with similar goals, potentially leading to future collaborations.
